“On our own, we can each make a difference in the world, but collectively, we are a force for good that exponentially surpasses what we can do alone.”
Last weekend, I had the opportunity to participate in an event called Battle Cancer - Dubai 2022. This particular ‘competition’ is not like the ones I usually take part in. The main goal isn’t to sweat to be the fittest, strongest and overall best athletes. Battle Cancer is a functional fitness fundraising competition that brings fitness enthousiasts together to sweat for a good cause; for all those who have been affected by cancer.
Prior to the day-long fitness challenge, my team and I tried to raise money for a charity of our choice. Within a week, we raised just a little over 3500aed for the Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon. We were (and still are) incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us in fighting for a good cause by donating.
After the fundraising portion was complete, it was time to sweat and have some fun; our kind of fun that is!
Throughout the day, we took on 4 unique and challenging 9-minute workouts. Seeing as this was a team event, of course we each needed to push ourselves individually, but even more we had the opportunity to push and support one another throughout each workout. Sharing this experience with friends and not having any kind of pressure to “win” made the entire day very enjoyable and successful.
For me, this event was another reminder of how much fun fitness can be, of how nice it is to surround yourself with likeminded (supporting/motivating/passionate/inspirational) individuals, of how we can raise awareness for good causes through our passions and talents, and of how a community of caring people can make a difference.
“Work hard. Have fun. Make a difference.”
