Today, we had our FINAL primary school assembly before the summer holidays and in the very beginning of the gathering, our school principal spoke about reflection. He mentioned something about looking in the mirror, reflecting on the school year that is coming to an end and seeing how much everyone has changed and grown over the past 10 months.  Of course this message was geared mostly towards our young students, however it really got me thinking about what I would see if I looked in the mirror... For weeks and weeks I’ve been trying not to speak There has been a big secret And I’ve been very determined to keep it I’ve been planning a trip to LA Looking forward to an amazing getaway Was going to surprise my one brother With his girlfriend and my mother Well I guess the joke is on me Because he won’t be there from what I can see He’s been called up to the AHL It’s finally his shot at the next level Of course I’m sad he won’t be there on my arrival After my long 16 hour flight and travel But I’m beyond excited for this chance For his hockey career to advance His road to success has not been trouble-free This I can guarantee But my brother is one tough cookie I’m sure everyone will agree Nick, You’ve shown such great passion, focus and determination This opportunity is the exact confirmation You truly deserve this shot Get out there and show everyone what you got! Some people find my accent charming Others find it very alarming They think it’s unusual   At times some would even say it’s brutal Certain comments are upsetting And really unsettling I won’t let this go I refuse to lay low Criticizing others for the way they speak Seems to me pretty weak We all come from a different place Can’t we try to embrace? The accents we’ve acquired Should be admired They make us all unique Isn’t that something we should seek? I’m pleased with who I’ve become And it’s all thanks to where I’ve come from Many things are important to me My accent is one most definitely I’ll forever stay true to my roots There is absolutely no excuse No matter what form of the languages I may speak One thing's for sure, open-mindedness will always be the attitude I preach
